| Thrust. For those who love to ride bicycles, the loop road, which provides the access for vehicles throughout the area, is a favored destination. If you want to visit the actual Red Rock Canyon, you will need to have four wheel drive capacity and depending on weather conditions a bit of off roading experience.
Another portion of the conservation area that is always a hit with the visitors is the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, which offers a wonderful picnic area in addition to the living history programs that are hosted in the spring and fall. Actors in period costumes will narrate about the fearless pioneers, the hardships they faced, as well as the ins and outs of daily living. This is a wonderful outing for the entire family, and children in particular love the hands on approach of the actors.
Visitors who want to do things right and start off at the visitors center are often greeted by a large desert tortoise named Mojave Max who is the pet and mascot of the park. It is important to note that not all of the fauna is as calm and friendly as Max. As a matter of fact, wherever there are warm temperatures and rocky crevices, snakes may also be found. In this case it is the threat of rattlesnakes that will need to caution visitors to keep their ears open, and their feet out of overgrown areas and instead firmly planted on the established trails. Even then confrontations with the snakes are possible. Probably the most often dispenses piece of advice to visitors is to check their water intake! It is easy to become so enamored of the sights and sounds that one is likely to simply set off into the distance to being an exploration, yet considering that the Nevada sun beats mercilessly onto the rock faces of Red Rock Canyon, and knowing that the desert high temperatures quite often exceed 100 degrees, it is imperative that you bring plenty of drinking water for your outing!
For those who simply cannot leave the glitzy city of Las Vegas behind them, there is the recreation of Bonnie Springs, which is a little ghost town at the outskirts of the Red Rock Canyon national conservation area. The recreated city offers a glimpse into what life used to be like in the olden days of the Wild West, and children simply love the fact that there is not only a petting zoo but also a chance to play cowboy (or cowgirl) and work together with a real Wild West show to get the feel of things. For those Vegas enthusiasts who simply cannot do without yes, there is a wedding chapel in Bonnie Springs!
It is not surprising that so many who visit this wonderful area and come back with the firm conviction that Red Rock Canyon does, indeed, rock!
